According to a research people have lived in the area of Xerokambos since the 5th century. In the town is now called Farmakokefalos, a hellenistic town was discovered in 1984.It is possible that this was initially ancient Ampelos. In the centre of the region, there is a small church of Saint Nicholas which was built in 1895. There are salt marshes near the beach of the ancient town, where the residents used to get salt from the carved rocks of the coast. Also, salt marshes were found in "Kavalous", some small islands that are opposite the coast.
